The Great Schizm
By:Albert T.
-What is The Great Schizm?-
The Great Schizm is about the Greeks (Orthodix) and Latins (Catholic) split. Alienation and misunderstanding are the many reasons between the two groups. The Latins took activities and power in other authority, but this action was an usurpation by the Greeks. Each church has different relationship between the emperor and church. The arguments to the church calender, the use of leaven or unleavened bread, and others ended in 1054 when Pope Leo IX and Partriarch Michael Cerularis excommunicated each other.
-What happened after the Great Schizm?-
There were later attempts to unite the church which led to local feeling, and mutual anger grew through the greedy acts on both groups during some parts of the Crusades;Which soon led to the attacking of Constatinople in 1204 during the Fourth Crusades. The schism stills goes onto the present, but some attempts have given the hope of reconcilation.
