In 1216, he had received the confirmation of the indulgence of the Porziuncola from the new Pope. Which is now known as the Pardon of Assisi.

On July 16, 1228 he was pronounced to be a saint, which was by the next pope Gregory IX. The next day, the pope had laid the foundation stone for the  Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi.
