THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

By:Lauren O

The Declaration of Indepedence was approved on July4th,1776. The actual signing wasn't until a month later. Some people involved were Benjamin Franklin, Tomas Jefferson, and John Adams. These 3 men played important roles in the signing of the declaration of independence. Tomas Jefferson made the 1st declarartion and after John Adams and Benjamin Franklin made a few suggestions for the declaration.

Tomas Jefferson was 33 years old when he was picked to do the drafting of the declaration. His job was to explain why there was separtion of the colonies from Britain. Jefferson's explainaion was revolutionary, even though it was simple. He made the clear statement about the right to be "free and indepedent states". When the 2nd continental congress met it was 90 degrees and a thunderstorm was underway. On July 2nd, only 12 colonies voted New York was the only one that didn't vote. They all new the seriousness of the signing.

This would be a life and death matter, because they were commiting treason against Great Britain. This would be a long-term impact because they were now apart from Britian. This was the first time that a goverment was established, because of natural rights.

In this picture of the committee, the committee is preparing themselves for the declaration.
