Capitol Moves to Washington D.C.

The capital of the untied states moves from New York, Philadelphia to Washington DC.  It moved on June 15 (from Philadelphia) and they had there first meeting November 27.  It moved because they wanted a place where they could govern the nation, so they built Washington D.C. City.  Washington DC is now the District of Columbia.  That’s what D.C means.

The city was named after George Washington probably because he was the first president of the United States.  They got most of there land from Maryland.  Are state capital was built there and is still there to this day.  It is specially designed so that each part of the government can live there.  It is also designed so that that the capital is over looking the mall.  Even though Washington D.C. is nice now, it wasn’t nice when it was being built.  It was all farm land and took over 51 years to build.
