Emperor Shotoku

When Prince Shotoku was born in 576 A.D. everyone knew he would be special.  My history wiki is about Prince Shotoku becoming emperor of Japan. When he was four months old he learned how to speak. People were coming to him for wisdom and guidance. When he was only one year old he could read and write and when he was still a young boy he memorized all the teachings of Buddhism. When he was older he became emperor (I’ll tell you more about him as emperor in the next paragraph). He changed lots of stuff like having Buddhism as the other religion along with Shinto the oldest religion in Japan. Those were some of the topics about Price Shotoku becoming emperor.

The Japanese people loved Shotoku when he ruled. He tried to learn as much as possible about Chinese philosophy and studied Confucianism and Buddhism, he built Buddhist temples and statues all over Japan.  This influenced how he ruled Japan. He issued the 17 Article Constitution. The “Constitution” adapted the Chinese style of government. In his government there was an emperor and official government rankings. Japan at this time was an agricultural society. However craftspeople from Korea showed the Japanese about bronze casting and advanced iron working. When Shotoku died  of illness in 622 A.D. everyone missed him very much. Emperor Shotoku’s changes that he made in Japanese government and religion are still influencing Japan today.
