The first person to ever set foot on Florida was Juan Ponce de Leon. He found it on March 27, 1513. He landed on Florida on April 2 and named it La Pascua Florida which means Flowery Easter. He left and returned in 1528 so he could start a colony but they kept getting chased off by the native populations. Later on the french began taking interest in the area. So they went and attacked Spains base but all the french were killed.
In 1763 Spain traded Florida over to Britain. Almost all the spanish people left after that. The british were the ones that divided Florida into East Florida and West Florida. Then in 1795 Florida went back to being ruled by Spain again. Then at long last in Feburary 22, 1819 The Adams Onis treaty was signed between the United States and Spain. Florida became an organized terriotory of the United States March 30, 1822. The Americans merge east and west Florida and established a new capital in Tallahassee.
This is an important event because a lot of things happened. Florida was owned by lots of places. Without Florida we wouldn't have 50 states and it just wouldn't be the same. It took us years and years before we finally got Florida and we should be proud we have it!

This is Florida when it was divided into eats and west.

This is Florida after the U.S. bought it.
