The Anglican Church, also known as the Church of England, was founded in 1543 by King Henry VIII. King Henry VIII broke away form the Catholic Church for political reasons. So why did he find the Church of England? It all started when he wanted to have a divorce with his wife. He wanted to marry a girl named Anne Boleyn. The reason he wanted a divorce is because he wanted a male heir. He asked the Pope for approval of the divorce but instead the Pope refused to allow him to get a divorce. He then killed his wife and married Anne. To make the Pope angry by renounced Roman Catholicism. This took England out of the Roman Religion. After that he went to England’s law making body to declare him head of the Anglican Church. It was said that the church's beliefs were much similar to the Catholics beliefs. Then he decided with the money of the church to print the first legal English Bible. It was said that he was doing this to make the Pope angrier but instead this New English Bible became something many people wanted. Even if he was trying to make the Pope mad he changed a lot of people’s lives and that is one thing that he will always be known for!
King Henry VIII accomplishments affect us in many ways. For example if he didn't print the first legal English Bible, who knows we might have not even had a Bible in America yet. Or maybe it was published later but the many versatile religions we have in America would not be so common. The English Bible is one thing that most people use everyday and without it maybe America would have much more crimes and it would not be as safe as is it today. Although King Henry VIII was trying to make the Pope angry printing the first legal copy of the English Bible will be something he will always be known for.
