King Phillip's War took place from 1675-1676. It wasn’t actually a war that was under the rule of a king named Phillip. It was named after the Indian chief of the native American Indians named Metecomet whereas the English called him Phillip. One of the most important people of the war on the English side was Captain William Turner. He led the Turner Falls massacre. Turner Falls is where both sides had gone to fish, but since the war started food was in short supply.

The Turner Falls Massacre happened near the end of the war when settlers desperately needed food and were in short supply of needed materials. Captain William Turner lead 150 men and boys to mount Adams where they went on without their horses to the Indian encampment. When he gave the signal they thrust their muskets into the Indians and fired. Then Indians nearby were alerted by all of the musket fire and began to surround the camp. There was nearly no way to escape so Captain Turner forced a retreat into the Indian line and ran into the woods where he was shot in the back while fleeing. Some of the surviving men were forced to find their own way back and never returned. At least 40 men were killed on the retreat, with only one was killed in the ambush.
This event was very important because it was one of the bloodiest wars in U.S.A. history. Even more than the civil war in proportion of the population.
