The war of 1812 was fought between the U.S and the U.K. It was fought from 1812-1815. The war was declared by the Americans on June 18th, 1812, due to a number of reasons. The biggest reasons were Great Britain trying to restrain America's neutral trade, defending native american lands from American settlers, and seizing thousands of American troops into the British navy. The war went badly for the americans at first, but they soon became more successful as they became more logical and tactical.

The American's attempts at invading Canada were repeatedly resisted by General Isaac Brock. The British had Native American allies. The American's troops were mainly composed of militia, but they were incompetently led and many resisted service. Great Britain was also at war with France at the time, so they could not focus fully on America. They began using a defensive startegy in 1812-1813 since they were unable to use their full force.

Ultimately, nothing changed in the nations land ownership. America realized they could not easily defeat the British, and Britain began recognizing America as a national power. Things became generally peacful between America and Great Britain for the 19th century, and they became allies in the 20th century.
